S OME PAGES TURNED » The sound of the bell brought with it what felt like a stampede of children rushing to the lunch room. Silas hung back in his class, letting the kids pass him by. When he finally reached the door, he turned to his teacher with a smile.
"Thank you, "Silas murmured, his tone soft and polite. She smiled back, giving him a nod to encourage him to get out to lunch. Hearing that little boy say thanks (for what, he didn't say) became a routine every time he left the class. When Sly reached the lunch room things were considerably calmer than he anticipated. Kids were talking too loudly for his comfort- it was like a dull roar filled the room. Now where was the hungry lion? Sly shook his head, reminding himself there was no lion as he walked to the lunch line. Kade was home sick today, so it was just him. This gave the normally cheerful boy a reason to be a bit upset. That, and he'd stayed up with his brother, filling up his water and bringing him crackers all night. Silas approached the designated first grader's section, offering a soft hello of greeting as he set his food down and slipped into his seat. ✘silas [/blockquote] « SOME BRIDGES BURNED ![/blockquote]

Savannah was scared as she left her classroom and headed to the cafeteria. It was the first time that she had been to the cafeteria, she was sort of scared. She did not know how she was going react with all the big kids in the cafeteria, Savvy was hopeful that she might see her sisters during lunch. The girl did not know what to do in the cafeteria or how to behave, it was first time that she had been allowed to go cafeteria. Last year, she ate lunch in her kinder room, so this was something different. The girl was excited about joining the big kids in the cafeteria. It was new world that she had to navigate,Savannah was ready to find her way in this world.
The girl exited the room as she walked in a line with her class mates. She walked quietly as she looked around the school, she was still trying to find her way after her uneventful first day.
Savannah entered the lunch room and just ran up to her sisters and gave them each a hug. She was glad that she could see them, she felt more comfortable with them in the room. The girl giggle as her teacher ordered back in line. Savannah just sighted as she grabbed her tray with a hot dog, fries and pudding. She grabbed a chocolate milk and then walked back to her table. The girl wanted to sit next to her sisters.
She took seat on the first graders section and smiled at a boy, just started to eat.Savannah let out another grind as her sisters came by and just dropped a jello and another pudding. Savannah smiled at the boy, "Hi!I'm Savannah. And you are?"

S OME PAGES TURNED » When two girls walked by, Silas' attention lifted up to them curiously. Older kids usually didn't hesitate to walk right by them unless, like Kade, they had a reason. Funny, he had half expected Kade to be with them. He wasn't. When all they did was drop more food for the girl he could only assume was either a friend or a sibling, he went back to his food.
Silas glanced up when the girl across from him addressed him; his mouth full of peanut butter and jelly stopped him from saying anything immediately. He lowered his sandwich to his tray and swallowed his food before clasping his hands together atop the table (he always hoped doing that, grabbing his own hand, would make him feel braver- it didn't.)
"I'm Silas. "Silas replied. Most kids in his class that'd met him called him Sly now because it was both easier to remember and really cool. They'd heard his brother call him Sly and just never let it go. Silas bit his lip lightly for a moment, something he often saw Kade do, before thinking of another question to ask the girl. It was only fair that she got a question, then he asked one. " Those girls. Were they your friends?" ✘silas [/blockquote] « SOME BRIDGES BURNED ![/blockquote]
