H ERE'S A RIDDLE » If someone could pinpoint exactly when everyone got so busy, Shiloh'd definitely be indebted to them. Maybe an explanation for why the house was eerily quiet could somehow help him come to terms with it. At the moment his son, Darius, was the only one home with him this Saturday morning. Shiloh sort of preferred it- at least he wasn't home completely alone. And that selfish idea, that he wanted his son to be stuck at home, was exactly why he felt compelled to make it up to the boy by making the day fun.
Speaking of Darius, to the best of his knowledge the boy was sleeping. But the last time he checked on him was when he got up at seven to tell his wife goodbye. Shiloh glanced at his watch (it was eight o'clock) as he considered this thought; that was an hour ago, so it seemed entirely likely that he'd stumble out of his room soon. Shiloh turned his attention back to the bowl of ingredients- now all he had to do was stir it and decide whether or not to add something special (like chocolate chips, raisins, or blue berries) to the mix.✘shiloh « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

Darius has been asleep an hour before and had woken up half an hour ago, he would of got dressed to go downstairs but considering it was a Saturday and there was no school he decided to try get back to sleep, the only problem with that was he was properly awake and when he was like that he found he could never get back to sleep, so for the last half hour Darius had been playing around with the baseball he always kept on his bedside table, he had been throwing it up in the air and catching it, he felt it was calmed him a little, bit it was not working for a trying to get to sleep technique though.
Having thrown the ball up into the air like a thousand times by now Darius was feeling more awake than sleepy, he stopped throwing it up and down and placed the ball on the beside table. It was around about then he smelt a very delicious cooking smell, realizing what it was instead of getting out of bed he tumbled from it instead. getting up he shook of the shock landing on the floor and got dressed, he put everything on properly, he hated it when his clothes were messy. He rushed down stairs taking the baseball with him and arrived in the kitchen he sniffed and watched his dad from the doorway resting against the frame. "father are you making Pancakes?" he asked excitedly it was one of his favorite foods.

H ERE'S A RIDDLE » After a bit of deliberation he decided to split the batter up into two separate bowls. This gave him extra dishes, but felt worth it as he mixed some blueberries into one and chocolate chips into another. Once they were mixed up, he cooked the first chocolate chip batch, ending up with two regular sized pancakes. Once they were done he set them on a plate on the counter, before he poured in the blueberry batter into the pan. Darius' question caught his attention then, so he turned, his expression a playful grin.
"Two kinds- blueberry and chocolate chip. "Shiloh answered with a nod. " The chocolate ones are on the counter." He gestured toward the counter for emphasis before turning over the blueberry pancake in the pan. Shiloh hadn't yet got the syrup out of the cupboard, but he figured his son would know where to find it, so he didn't bother pointing it out. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

What had excited Darius more than the fact father was making Pancakes was the fact it was the very Pancakes that he liked more than anything, Darius knew that he had never told his father that he loved Pancakes and what type he liked, so the pancakes that were being made that happened to be ones he adored were just being made by pure coincidence or the fact his father liked those types as well. Before he had announced he was there he had given the baseball in his hand a quick throw into the air. He was almost obsessed with baseball.
Darius smiled at his father then wen over to where the pancakes were he noticed there was no syrup so he went over to the cupboard it was in and took it out. he poured more syrup than most people would need but he usually put too much of something on, no one knew if it was him being rebellious or something he did. He went to sit down at the table and placed the baseball in his hands on the table as well. As he tucked in he watched his father cook the others.

H ERE'S A RIDDLE » It didn't seem to take long at all for him to finish the second two pancakes. Shiloh placed them on the plate he'd set on the stove before he turned off the burner and walked to the table himself, the plate in hand. He left the mixing bowl (it still had several pancakes worth of batter) and the chocolate chips out, only putting away the blueberries so that they didn't get left out to spoil.
"It's just me and you today, kiddo. "Shiloh stated as he picked up the fork and knife he'd place there before. He had an annoying habit of setting the table before he ever started preparing a meal- less to worry about when the food was done. " So you're in charge. Whatever you want to do- I don't have anything planned. No work, no calls, just you and I, okay? How does that sound?"Shiloh would be lying if he said he didn't care if his son wanted to hang out with friends rather than spending the day with him. But to hear Darius already had plans wouldn't surprise him at this point. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

Darius finally finished the pancakes and quickly wiped his mouth with his hands to get rid of anything around it which was just a little bit of chocolate , he quickly licked it off his hand's instead of wiping it off there was not point in his mind in letting good chocolate go to waste, even when you felt sick, well actually if Darius felt sick from eating something that was just not a good sign, contrary from what most young people would do he would not continue eating and most likely go to bed or something instead. So at the party he was not the type of person to eat too much. When he noticed the batter in the mixing bowl he quickly took a small bit to try by itself, it was actually nice. The problem was if his father was not happy about it and asked him if he did it, lying was not going to work, that did not mean to say he would not try anyway.
"Why were is mum," he asked curiously, not that he minded he would never say but he was very attached to his dad, a lot more attached to him than he was with his mum. He watched as his dad picked up one of the knives and forks before waiting for the answer.
He grinned when he was told he could decided what they were going to do, he actually had no plans for today and all his friends where busy at the moment, and it was not everyday he got to spend time with his dad. He picked up his baseball and chucked it over to his dad "sounds awesome can we play some baseball then go see a game hats on today?"

H ERE'S A RIDDLE » Shiloh avoided the syrup. He didn't like syrup because it was too sweet, something he'd decided in his teenage years (Yes, he'd been somewhat boring and predictable even then). So he ate the blueberry pancakes plain, not seeming to give the fact that Darius rose from his spot a second thought. Maybe if it'd been a proper meal he would have minded (but normally that rule only applied if there were little kids who'd cry if they couldn't follow the person leaving). Since it was just him and Darius, getting upset over something he really didn't care about was pointless. He did, however, glance in his son's direction to make sure he was alright. He looked just in time to see Darius getting into the batter. A smile played at his lips as he turned back to his pancake as if he hadn't noticed. He didn't mind at all. If Darius would have been awake, he would have let Darius help prepare and cook them, had he wanted to.
"She went shopping- it's your aunt and uncle's anniversary, and your aunt wanted her help picking out a present and buying the party supplies. "Shiloh explained. That was what she was doing, but it was more of a girls' day out than a day of important preparations. " She plans to be back around six."Shi added before he took another bite of his pancake. Whether or not his wife would be home at six, he didn't know. Her sister lived an hour's drive away, and knowing the girls, they'd make a day of their shopping. Not that he minded. When Darius threw the baseball, he caught it with ease, slightly startled by the throw. It was yet another thing he wasn't going to be stressed about now. He smiled, tossing the ball lightly back toward his son. " That sounds like the perfect plan, kiddo."Shiloh replied with a nod. It wouldn't be too hard to meet those requirements, would it? Certainly not. He'd make it happen for Darius. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

Darius did not care that he forgot to ask for leave, and anyway it was only the pancakes who cared about getting down from the table if it was just a morning thing, he knew there where some but by the looks of it his dad did not mind. Darius never usually asked to get down anyway it was all part of him being rebellious testing boundaries and braking rules, he was made to say it in the end but there have been those lucky few times when he was able to escape before anything was even said, but even then he got in trouble for it. Darius was not always rebellious though there were those times were he would do what he was told but that was very few times and it barely ever happened. He did know that he should not be this bad for his parents it was just who he was at this moment in time, it could end up changing in a year.
Darius nodded to his father understanding what he said about mum going out shopping, Darius was glad he was here then and not taken out with his mum, he hated shopping unless he was going to by a game or it was something to do with baseball. "Are we doing anything for their anniversary?"He asked he was not sure if he actually wanted to do something for them, or not. Darius would of said something else but there was a noise from the sink which caused him to look at it at least five times flaring up his paranoia.
Darius caught the ball with ease when his father tossed it back lightly, he decided to juggle it between both his hands, the baseball was in good condition but that was because Darius kept it that way from ever since he first had it. Darius heard the wrod Kiddo again and frowned "Dad please don't call me that i'm not six anymore," Darius complained while it was an okay word it felt like it made him younger than he actually was. With that he went upstairs washed his hands from eating twice then got his baseball bat mit and cap before coming back downstairs.

"I'm not sure yet.
"Shiloh replied with a shrug. " It depends on your aunt and uncle's plans. I haven't been included in the conversations about whatever sort of celebration the girls are planning." That admission brought a smile to his lips. No, this was a secret from all boys, as if he may tell the children's uncle if the girls trusted him. He wouldn't have, but it was still nice that they pretended. It made him feel less predictable than he was. " Hm? Sorry, Darius. I won't call you kiddo."Shiloh replied genuinely (though this new information seemed to startle him a bit). He was trying to validate Darius and his feelings. Still, as a parent, it was always a bit hard knowing your kids outgrew nicknames. Now it'd be a real challenge to break the habit of calling him kiddo- he called almost everyone that, including the students that came to see him at the elementary school. But he'd certainly try. As his son rushed upstairs, he rose from the table himself to clean up his the dishes that'd been dirtied for breakfast. He couldn't just leave them here for his wife- it was his mess. Once it was cleared away, Shiloh paused, wondering if they should bring anything with them. Water would be good, so he pulled out two water bottles from the fridge. Now, what else? Right, skittles. Hidden in the cupboard, behind a box of oatmeal, he found his stashed bag of red Skittles. " Here you go, Darius."Shiloh offered the Skittles out to him, silently hoping the boy didn't hate Skittles. He really needed to pass around some sort of survey among the kids to pinpoint these things. " I think that's all we need. Would you like to take anything else?"Shiloh questioned, figuring they'd probably just buy food later on, once they were out of the house or at the game. Now he just needed his jacket with his wallet, and his own baseball glove from the closet. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

Darius nodded to display that he understood about what his dad was saying about the plans of his aunt and uncle, he knew that most girls kept things secret from men thinking that they would spill the beans to the person they were supposed to be keeping the secret from, it was not entirely true, and neither was the fact most women that's just what Darius believed from the girls and such that he had met, they all seemed to try keep the guy out of the secret so they could keep their secrets safe and not have it "spoilt" by the guy they just told the secret to. Darius was not a nosey person so was not the type of person to ask what someone was on about if the conversation did not involve him at all. All in all though he loved the fact that all this meant mum was out the house and he could spend some time with his dad by himself and the bonus to that was he got to go see a baseball game with him something that he had not done for some time now. The first one he had ever been to was when he was four, ever since then he loved baseball.
Darius was glad when his dad agreed to not call him kiddo any more, he found the name a bit of an odd name to use with a 12 year old boy, he grew out of it when he was like 10 he had only just got around to telling his dad he did not like it, he did not mind a nickname that made him sound older or Dar, Jase, Gaz or Gazzer maybe but kiddo was just like well no it just did not fit for him at the moment.
Darius had, had to go back upstairs to quickly get his torch he had no idea why he wanted to go get it but he felt better when he had it just like with his pen knife and Phone.
When he finally reached the kitchen again when his dad gave him some skittles, Darius smiled he did not love skittles but he sure did like them, he put them in his pocket saving them for later, before giving his dad a hug "Thanks dad." after a few seconds he got out of the hug and thought about what else to take other than his black leather coat, and maybe a book he was not sure what to take, he shook his head, deciding not to take a book, he headed for the door and remembered he wanted to ask his dad something "Dad I got a book out from school and er," he was not exactly sure what to say because he was proud with the fact he could read well but he was struggling to understand the book he had taken out, he had tried giving it ago but it was not going well "I well I don't really understand it, I have tried so I was hoping at some point you could help me?" He asked him not sure what the answer would be he felt a bit embarrassed about asking.

H ERE'S A RIDDLE » When Shiloh's thoughtfulness earned him a hug from his son, he smiled. Now that was worth it.
"You're welcome, Dar. "Shiloh replied. He hugged Darius back, a loose embrace, anticipating- yep. There it was. The boy moved away from him and headed for the door. Shiloh smiled anyway, grabbing the two water bottles before he, too, headed for the door. He put the water bottles in the pocket of his coat (presently hanging on the coat rack by the door) before opening the closet door. When Darius asked for his help, he turned his attention from searching for his glove to his son. " Of course, Darius."Shi nodded without hesitation. " I would love to help you. As soon as you're ready, just tell me and we'll sit down and figure it out." In fact, he'd be happy with the chance to help with any homework. But reading and other English pursuits were certainly his strong suit when he was in school. And when he was first introduced to Shakespeare? Well, from there he'd found his passion. Shiloh turned back to the task at hand. Being as organized as he was, the only thing standing between him and his glove was the disorganization of someone else (he had no idea who, and he wasn't going to point fingers). But after sifting through pairs of old shoes, a few random toys, and outside toys, he found his glove with one of his favorite baseballs. Perfect. It couldn't hurt to bring one along (though there were many littering the floor of his Chevy Avalanche). Shiloh grabbed a pair of sneakers, too, figuring he didn't need to wear his work shoes today. Once they were on, he grabbed his coat with his keys, the water bottles, and his wallet before he held the door open for his son, and lead him toward the red truck in the driveway. ✘shiloh [/blockquote] « I LOVE YOU ![/blockquote]

Darius grinned happy when his dad used his preferred nickname funny out of all the nick names he had because of his three names , it was Dar that he liked better, one of his other nicknames Jase was okay because it just sounded like a cool thing to say, he said it in his head again running it over he prefred it better than Dar Jase nope Dar was still better it just worked and plus it was a short version of his first name. When it came to his last two nicknames he was a little on the fence about them, Gaz and Gazzer, he could never find the word but they seemed a little bit bland to him, why would you make a nick name out of the last part of a middle name, okay yeah it happens and it can be good sometimes, but really did he need that, two nicknames were good as, however there was some who insisted on calling him Gaz or Gazzer, so he grew into either ignoring it or accepting it, yeah accepting it that was right much better than ignoring it, because it meant you did not care and Dar did care.
Darius was still a little bit embarrassed about asking for help with his reading it was just something not generally done with him, he was a bit like is father in terms of reading, he loved books and adored reading well not as much as he loved and adored baseball but next to baseball classic literature and other books could be used to keep him occupied. He was glad though the his dad would help him with it though, he would not of asked his mum and he actually had no idea why, maybe it was something to do with his dad and reading who knew? Darius went back up to his room quickly and retrived the book from his mess of a bedroom it was called "Touching The skin," it was by the Author Robert Darwin, he put the thing in his bag he would take with him and he would tell his dad what it was about later.
When he got back downstairs his dad was holding the door for him, as he passed the coat hooks he took his coat from them putting it on him before walking out the door and waiting for his dad at the car. He was going to love today a father son day, now that was something.
